The Sorcerers’ New Robes

Posted in Blue, Holographic, jelly with tags , , , , , , , on July 27, 2010 by Amanda Frankenpolish

Good morning!

I’ve got a quick and easy recipe for you today! This one is a breeze to make, and really a beauty!

I used China Glaze Bermuda Breakaway and Wet ‘N Wild Kaleidoscope.

I poured 3/4 of Kaleidoscope into and empty bottle, then added in 1/3 of Bermuda Breakaway. You tweak these amounts to add more of less opaqueness.

Up close to show the holo glitter:

The holo glitter pieces in Kaleidoscope are tiny square shaped, and look amazing suspended in the blue jelly base. I used two coats, and was quite pleased with the result!

Thanks for stopping by, and check back soon for more! 🙂

Ion

Posted in Blue with tags , , , , , , on July 1, 2010 by Amanda Frankenpolish

Good morning!

Today I have the final installment of my Overall Minerals pigment frankens. These have been so fun to make, and I saved my favorite for last!

Ion was the color I was most excited to play with. I actually had another pigment from a different brand that was very similar in color, but sadly turned into a messy lava-lamp like monstrosity when I tried to add it into a polish base. Ion worked beautifully when I tried it in the same base, A Perfect 10 brand color called The One, which is a sheer with blue shimmer. Also, I discovered a few days later that the Pure Ice color called Oh Baby will achieve the same result. I used about one full tablespoon of Ion pigment in this.

Can you see why this is my favorite?

The polish base was a bit thin, so I did three coats of this to make sure it was completely opaque. The color just pops out at you and screams for attention!

A gigantic thank you once again to Kim from Overall Beauty for sending me these pretty pigments to play with! ❤

Franken-free Friday: British Invasion!

Posted in Barry M, Blue, Boots, OPI, Orly, Purple, Sally Hansen, Zoya with tags , , , , , , , , on June 11, 2010 by Amanda Frankenpolish

Happy Friday!
Today I have a few colors to show you from across the pond. I recently received these pretties from my friend Vikki in the U.K., and had to wear them all immediately. These are all 2 coats.

First up, Barry M Berry Ice Cream, a beautiful light purple creme.

I think out of all the non-U.S. brands I own, I have the most Barry M’s. I have a huge collection of them, because they are AWESOME. The application is always perfect, and I love their color range.

Here is another of the newer colors, Barry M Blueberry Ice Cream, a light blue cream that is bright, but not neon. I’ve seen this one pop up on a few other blogs lately, and I can see why it is so popular!

I thought it might be useful to include some comparisons for this one, so here are a few other blues. Thumb to pinky: Orly Snowcone, Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Blue Blast, Zoya Robyn, Barry M Blueberry Ice Cream, and OPI Suzi Says Feng Shui. None of them are exact dupes, but the SH Insta-Dri is very close. Snowcone has much more purple in it, Robyn is more neon, and SSFS isn’t really close at all, but I included it anyway for reference!

Another nice U.K. brand is Boots No. 7. Although I only own a couple of these, I’ve had good luck with this brand and no complaints. Here’s Totally Teal, a dark jelly-ish teal. I have never considered teal to be a vampy color, but this sure does a good job of convincing me:

And lately for today…Boots Violetta, a dark purple creme.

As I mentioned earlier, I have a TON of Barry M’s as well as other U.K. and foreign brands…so I may have those for you next Friday! Thanks for stopping by and enjoy the weekend! 🙂

Franken-free Friday: A couple new Orlys

Posted in Blue, Orly with tags , , , , , , , on June 4, 2010 by Amanda Frankenpolish

Happy Friday!
Boy, it couldn’t come soon enough. I somehow managed to catch a summer cold, and it has totally wiped me out this week. I mustered enough energy to do a couple of the newer Orly colors, so I have those to show you! I only bought the 2 blues, since they looked the most appealing.

First up, is Bailamos. This is a bright blue shimmer that has a bit of a green tinge to it. Reminds me of tropical waters…very soothing and pretty looking. The first coat made me nervous, since it went on VERY streaky and sheer, but I did a bit of a thicker 2nd coat and it evened up just fine. I could probably have done a 3rd coat, but since I wasn’t feeling well, I left it at 2 and was happy with it.

The other blue I got was La Playa, a dark cobalt blue creme. This applied much better, very smooth and even. I did 2 coats and that definitely was sufficient. While this isn’t a terribly unique color (I am pretty sure China Glaze has a dupe), its still a lovely shade!

Thanks for stopping by…hopefully I kick this damn cold soon so I can get back to swatchin’ and mixin’!

Old School Cool

Posted in Blue with tags , , , , , on January 26, 2010 by Amanda Frankenpolish

Today’s franken is a simple one, but really packs a punch!

I used Sally Hansen X-treme Wear in Limelight, and CM Echo Blue (any medium blue shimmer will do).

I filled an empty bottle with 2/3 of Limelight, then added in 1/3 of Echo Blue.

This one is a super glowy blue with a green shimmery flash! Very cool indeed!

Thanks for stopping by! As always, I welcome your feedback and any suggestions for frankens you’d like to see! 🙂
