Franken-free Friday: Some Borghese love!

Posted in Black, Blue, Borghese, Glitter, Green, jelly, Pink, Purple with tags , , , , , , , , , , on April 30, 2010 by Amanda Frankenpolish

Happy Friday!
Today I’d like to show off some polishes from one of my favorite brands, Borghese. Borghese doesn’t get nearly enough love, and trust me, there’s a lot to love. Their formula is excellent, and if you are a cream lover, the Borghese creams apply like butter! My only complaint about Borghese was that they didn’t have enough color variety. You all know how I feel about my greens!
🙂
But recently, Borghese came out with a new collection called Tutti Gelati…with GREENS! And a yellow, too!

So here are some of my favorites, new & old, for you to enjoy! All of these are 2 coats over Nailtek Foundation II & no topcoat.

Tutti Gelati…a gorgeous shimmery pink that is very close to China Glaze 100 Proof Pink (which is now discontinued). They aren’t exact dupes, but if you love 100PP, then you need this one:

And one of my favorite reds, Borghese Red…this practically applied itself:

And we can’t forget Stellar Notte! Wow is all I can say.

Look how the color changes in the sunlight:

The color shift in this is awesome…it reminds me of an oil spill in a parking lot…that gorgeous blue/green/purple flash.

Another creme…Mezzanotte Blue. This is a very dark navy, but it doesn’t look black.

Outdoors in the sun…so smooth and shiny!

Borghese had a collection a couple years back, I believe it was called “Roman Holiday”, that had some amazing colors. Festa Cerise was one of my favorites. It’s a pink jelly with teeny pink glitter flecks in it.

And one of my favorite blacks, Notte Black, is not your typical black. It has the slightest shimmer to it, making it stand out amongst my collection. And it applied effortlessly…usually I make a huge mess with blacks and dark colors! I must apologize for my jaundiced looking hands in this photo….I had just taken off a dark green before applying Notte Black, and obviously didn’t do a very good cleanup job!

And speaking of greens, the last one I have to show you is a new acquisition that has quickly won me over. The new green, Pistachio. I think it speaks for itself!

You can find Borghese at most drug stores, and they are definitely worth checking out if you have never tried them before. I have a bunch more colors, but I’ll save those for another day! 🙂 Thanks for stopping by and check back tomorrow to see who won my giveaway! ❤

Gypsy Rose

Posted in Pink with tags , , , , , on April 27, 2010 by Amanda Frankenpolish

Hi all! I’ve got a pretty pink to show you today!

I used Sally Hansen Red Awakening, Wet ‘N Wild Lavender Cream (which is not Lavender at all but a bright pink), and Wet N’ Wild Bronze.

I filled an empty bottle half full of Bronze, and added in 1/4 each of Red Awakening and Lavender (PINNNNNK) Cream.

Now this one came out a bit unexpected. Yes, it’s a typical rosy pink shade, but it has grey shimmer! Not silver, grey! Very different, and I like it!

Thanks for stopping by! Don’t forget to enter my Barielle giveaway…the winner will be chosen on Saturday! 🙂

Giveaway! Some Barielle goodies!

Posted in Other with tags on April 24, 2010 by Amanda Frankenpolish

I have some goodies to giveaway today from Barielle! I’m very excited to share these with you, because these are some items I use myself, and really like them. One winner will receive one each of the Nail Rebuilding Protein, Nail Strengthening Cream, and Ultra Speed Dry Manicure Extender.

The mani extender is a godsend! It work great as a refresher, dries quickly, and leaves you nails super duper shiny. I use it under my SV occasionally too, because it helps with the shrinkage that SV is notorious for!
The contest will run for one week, and a random winner will be selected May 1st. International readers are welcome to join in as well. Good luck, everyone! 🙂

Franken-free Friday: “Hot Messes” & others

Posted in Barielle, Blue, foil, Green, Grey, Lippmann, manglaze, Ruby Kisses, Zoya with tags , , , , , , , , on April 23, 2010 by Amanda Frankenpolish

Hello franken-friends!
After much thought, I’ve decided to start doing a weekly “Franken-Free Friday”, which is exactly as it sounds. Instead of frankens, I’ll show you some of my favorite polishes (new & old) and other polish related things. Of course frankening is my number one love, and the very reason I started this blog…but with being a new homeowner, and doing lots of renovations on my house, time has been stretched very thin lately. I figured this would be a nice balance in between frankening, and I can still talk about polish! 🙂

So, to kick off FFF, I have some recent mani pics to show you! First up are some Hot Messes! I used my ManGlaze Hot Mess, and while it was quite awesome on its own…I found that it is even hotter layered! I have several (ahem, understatement) sheer colors that are so pretty but go unworn because I can’t stand visible nail lines. And my nails are REALLY stained…who wants to see that?!
Here is 2 coats of Hot Mess with 1 coat of Ruby Kisses Neon Green over it:

And also with Lippmann Rehab…poor Rehab has gone neglected for a loooong time:

If you love the “foily” look…you need this! I’ve worn Hot Mess alone, and also with others over it, like 5 times since I got it not too long ago. That is practically unheard of in my household! HM is one tough cookie though…no chipping or peeling, so it’s perfect when you want something that will last you a while.

Another recent and instant love for me is the Zoya Sparkle collection. There are no words to express how cool and unique these are! My favorite of the bunch, no surprise, was Invanka…the green! This is two coats in artificial light:

And outdoor in partial sun:

The really weird thing about these Zoya Sparkles…they look just as beautiful, if not better, in shade! The tiny flakey glitter really stands out and catches your eye. And the best part? Removal was a breeze! Usually the super glittery colors put up a fight, but this came off very easily with felt & remover.

And my last non-franken for today…Barielle Out-Grey-Geous. In the bottle, I thought it may be a dupe for OPI Brand New Skates…but it’s actually quite different. It has tiny flecks of holo gold in it, and I instantly fell in love with it. I have a small collection of Barielle colors, but I think I need more. This applied very nicely, and held up well against chipping. This is 3 coats:

I hope you enjoyed my “Franken-free Friday”… I look forward to showing you more of my favorite colors next week. I also have a neat green franken coming up, and tomorrow will be doing a giveaway…so check back! 😉

Fragile Humanity

Pale peach has seems to be a popular color this spring, so I decided I may as well jump on the bandwagon and franken one up! I also tried to tie in the Twilight/vampire theme again for all you fans, so hopefully you like it!

I used a shimmery sheer white Revlon Colorstay (the bottom label was missing so I am unsure of the name, Wet ‘N Wild French White Cream, and Taylor Made pigment in High Lite.

I poured half each of the two whites into an empty bottle, then mixed in 1/2 teaspoon of High Lite pigment. This one required a LOT of shaking for the pigment to blend in, but it was worth the workout!

I was afraid this wouldn’t look good on me since I am so pale, but I really like it! It is smooth and “clean” looking.

Thanks for stopping by! I have a ton of cool things coming up, including the king (queen) of all greens, a giveaway, and something special on Friday! 😉

Sparkles & Fangs

Posted in Glitter, Purple with tags , , , , , , , , , on April 19, 2010 by Amanda Frankenpolish

Hello franken-friends…I’m back!

I’ve had quite a few requests for “vampire themed/Twilight themed” frankens, so I went ahead and used one of my awesome new Franken Juggs from Manglaze to make one.

I used Jade Twinkling Purple, Sally Hansen Red Awakening, Orly Love Each Other, and Sally Hansen Glossy.

I filled the bottle with 1/3 each of Love Each Other and Twinkling Purple, then added 1/4 of Glossy, followed by about 20 drops of Red Awakening.

‘Tis sparkley! Just like vampires! Errr, well, certain vampires at least. LOL.

I admit I was a bit intimidated by the Franken Jugg. It’s quite different looking than a typical polish bottle, but I found the cap design didn’t hinder my application of the polish at all. In fact, my mani actually came out GREAT and required zero cleanup. I was quite pleased with the brush as well, so ManGlaze really has a winner with these! And my favorite part?

Look at the mouth on that baby! So much easier for adding polish/pigments/glitter into the jugg. Even when I use my little paper funnels with normal polish bottles, I still make a huge mess…this really will be beneficial! Just be careful not to knock it over 😉

Thanks for stopping by…be sure to come back Friday. I have something a little bit different for you coming up! 😀

Wicked awesome mail day!

Posted in matte, Other with tags , , , on April 9, 2010 by Amanda Frankenpolish

Hi everyone!
Thank you for all the kind comments and emails…it really means a lot to me that you actually miss my franken posts! 🙂
My nails are healing a bit, and I have made a bunch of new frankens that I will have up soon. But I absolutely HAD to show you all the goodies I got in the mail today!

First of all, let me just tell you that as a polish-oriented blogger, I’ve never received polishes from a company. I know many bloggers get promotional samples to try out, but I would never expect to receive promo polishes because of the nature of my blog…I’m just a crazy polish mixing fool! 😛 And to be honest, I’ve never been that good at describing colors/finishes/etc and don’t fancy myself much of an interesting writer. So you can imagine my surprise that I received a package in the mail from ManGlaze! Marc, the owner of the company, had sent me a message on Twitter asking for my address, and I figured it was probably for a mailing list or something.

But low and behold, look what came today.

Hot Mess, which is a sparkley silver matte…and Matte is Murder, a shimmery matte black. I adore the art on the bottles, and ManGlaze really has some amazing mattes!

But that’s not all. I received three “Franken Juggs”, too! Let the pictures do the talking…

Yes…those are empty franken bottles! Look at the labels!

I LOVE the artwork on these…I want the franken-lady as a life sized cutout! 😛
A huge thanks for ManGlaze for sending me these…I cannot wait to try them out.
Thanks for stopping by…you can expect some frankens real soon! ❤
