Franken-free Friday: Some golden oldies

Posted in Blue, Duochromes, Green, Liquid Euphoria, MAC, Purple, Theons with tags , , , , , , , on July 23, 2010 by Amanda Frankenpolish

Happy Friday!

Today, I have a few really old colors that I wore this past week to show you. With all the awesome new polishes coming out, I’ve been neglecting my “oldies”, so I decided to give them some love.

This first one…I’m only showing it because I *do* like the color, but I must say there aren’t enough swear words to properly describe the application. Theons #116 is a pretty pale mint/pistachio color. Looks very promising in the bottle, but five ( yes FIVE) coats later…I still had a bit of streaking on my ring finger. I have a couple other Theons colors, and haven’t had this problem, so I’m not sure what’s up with this one.

Next up…MAC Tilt. I got this from a friend of mine who has had the bottle since high school, so this one is literally old school! Tilt is a shimmery light blue/green color with a gold flash. It’s very similar to NYX Paradise, only a bit more opaque. I did two coats for this.

I saved the best for last! One of my most prized polishes in my collection is Liquid Euphoria Bliss. Sadly, this one is super hard to find, but if you are lucky enough to come across it…it’s a winner! Bliss is probably the closest dupe to the equally hard to find Clarins 230, and it is just gorgeous! I got my bottle from my sister, who was cleaning out some cosmetics when she was moving. She showed up with a bunch of polishes in hand, telling me they were old and might not be anything I wanted. As soon as I saw Bliss, I had a giant thrill fit which involved me shrieking, squealing and some sort of dancing. I think I scared her LOL. So here is Bliss in all it’s well deserved glory at various lighting…I did three coats.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great weekend! 🙂

Electric Cinder

Posted in Blue, Duochromes, Purple with tags , , , , on June 30, 2010 by Amanda Frankenpolish

Hello, everyone!

I’m back with yet another Overall Beauty Minerals franken! This one definitely came out REALLY great…and is cool looking. I also added a little something to the name to properly describe it.

I choose Orly Rock Candy to pair with OM’s “Cinder” pigment. Cinder is a dark smoky black with teeny tiny purple glitter flecks. This was actually the second franken I made with Cinder…the first being a FAIL. Not a huge fail, but still not what I wanted, and these pigments are so darn pretty they deserve nothing less than a 100% effort on my part! Rock Candy was a wise choice, and I only needed about a
teaspoon of Cinder pigment.

I’m actually glad the first attempt didn’t work…otherwise I might not have discovered this duochrome beauty!

It flashes between a vivid teal, deep shimmery purple, and an array of blue hues in between. Reminds me a lot of one of the old and long-gone Sally Hansen Prism colors, Turquoise Opal. The fine purple glitter in the Cinder pigment really pops out when the sun hits this. Of course the weather here has been madness (Tornado warnings in NY, really?!) so sun has been scarce.

Outdoors with very partial sun:

Thanks for stopping by! I have the last (and my favorite) of these coming up tomorrow, so check back!

End of the Rainbow

Posted in Duochromes, Green, Purple with tags , , , , , , on March 17, 2010 by Amanda Frankenpolish

Happy St. Patty’s Day! Of course I have a green to show you today!

For this one, I used Pure Ice Heartbreaker, OPI Sonic Bloom, and Art Deco in black.

I filled an empty bottle half full of Sonic Bloom, and added 1/4 each of Heartbreaker and black.

You can really see how vibrant the green is in this!

And check out the purple/orange flash!

I wish I could capture just how glowy this looks in real life!

I really love this one a lot…not just because it is green, but it has a beautiful color shift that catches your eye in the sun!

That’s all for today! Thanks for stopping by!:-)

Luminous

It’s been a while since a had a duochrome to show you, so let’s see if we can remedy that right now! 😛

I used Revlon Colorstay in Sparks, Maybelline Violet Waters, and Sherer Chameleon polish in Blue Sky.

I filled an empty bottle 1/2 full of Sparks, then added 1/4 each of Violet Waters and Blue Sky.

Not only is this a duochrome, but it has tiny microglitter in it as well, giving it a unique look! I bumped my mani against my desk as I was taking these photos, so please excuse the weirdness on my thumb and pinky…it’s not the polish itself (just my clumsiness)!

Such a cool color! I really like this one a lot!

Thanks for checking out my frankens…I will have more on the way soon! 🙂

Last Shuttle To Pluto

Posted in Black, Blue, Duochromes, Purple with tags , , , , , , on June 29, 2009 by Amanda Frankenpolish

Today I have the grand finale to our planetary journey into duochromes. It seems fitting that our last planetary polish should be Pluto! I know, I know…Pluto is actually no longer considered a planet.

I decided to use Wet ‘N Wild black again because I thought it was a good choice to compliment the Travel to Pluto pigment from TKB Trading. I filled an empty 0.25 oz bottle with 3/4 black, and mixed in 1 teaspoon of Pluto pigment.

Is it grey? Purple? Blue? I think I even see a bit of green in there! As you can see, I needed several pics to capture the color morphing going on here!

Again, no sun here. Grrr! This one is truly spectacular in person, and I am glad I saved it for last!

Although this duochromes were fun to make, they were a pain in the butt to photograph! I may attempt some more in the future, but I’ll be moving on to other ventures so check back soon.

Swimming on Neptune

Posted in Blue, Duochromes, Pink with tags , , , , , , , , on June 25, 2009 by Amanda Frankenpolish

All aboard…next stop…Neptune! Here’s a fun fact…did you know that the planet Neptune was named after the Roman god of the sea? When I think of the sea, I think of swimming…so that’s where the name for my franken came from.

I’ve experimented with different colors for each of my duochromes, and the possibilities are endless. The neat thing about these Planetary pigments are that they look different when mixed with alternate colors.

For today’s franken, I used Revlon Color in True Camisole, which is a sheer pink, and Travel to Neptune pigment from TKB Trading. Travel to Neptune is a shimmery pink with a strong blue flash. I filled a 0.25 oz bottle 3/4 full with True Camisole, then added in 1 teaspoon of Neptune pigment.

I love how this one turned out! It’s like OPI Rosey Future on steroids!

The great thing about these pigments is that even when mixed with a sheer or clear polish, they are completely opaque in 2 thin coats!

Of course it has been raining here for a week straight, so sadly, I had no sun to work with. The blue flash in this is really more vibrant in real life.
Thanks for looking, and hopefully you aren’t tired of duochromes yet because I still have a few more for you!

Mercury Rising

Today our visit into franken-land will be taking us to Mercury!

I used Maybelline clear, and Travel to Mercury pigment from TKB Trading. Mercury is a deep bronzy/orange with flashes of green and gold.

I filled a 0.25 oz empty bottle with 3/4 clear, and then added in 1 teaspoon of Mercury pigment.

The color shift in this one was definitely more noticeable in the bottle than on the nail, but it’s still cool looking.
