Juggle-not The Clown

Posted in Glitter, Pink, Red with tags , , , , , on August 11, 2010 by Amanda Frankenpolish

Good morning, all!

Today’s franken was inspired by my silly and lovable sister during a slightly tipsy game of Scattergories. The name made me laugh a lot and I knew I needed to incorporate it into a polish.

I used LA Colors Red Glitter, Sally Hansen Glossy, and Jade Meteorite Showers.

I filled an empty bottle with 2/3 Meteorite Showers, slightly less than 1/3 of Red Glitter, and 5 drops of Glossy.

Definitely fun looking!

The multi color glitter really stands out nice against the reddish pink base, and I couldn’t help but smile every time I looked down at my nails.

Franken-free Friday: Zoya Wicked & Wonderfuls

Posted in Bronze/Brown, foil, Green, Grey, Purple, Red, Zoya with tags , , , , , , on July 16, 2010 by Amanda Frankenpolish

Happy Friday!

Today I have a few of my favorites from Zoya’s recent collections, Wicked and Wonderful. Both collections are full of beautiful shades, so it was difficult to choose which ones were my absolute favorites. What I really like about these two releases is the variety! So many colors to choose from, in both cremes and shimmers, that it really has something for everyone. These were all two coaters, and applied wonderfully.

First up, Cheryl, from the “Wicked” foily-shimmer collection. This is a gorgeous chocolate-bronze shade, and stood out immediately to me. It is the perfect fall color, and although I am not quite ready for fall yet, I still loved wearing this.

Kelly is another definite standout shade. It is a dark grey creme, with a hint of blue/purple to it. Very unique and versatile…I think this is one of my new “go to” colors when I’m not sure what I feel like wearing.

Edyta was the one I was anticipating the most, and it didn’t disappoint! It is green-ish, with grey and tiny multi-color shimmer. A weird color, but weird in a good way!

Kristi just may be my new favorite red. I know I don’t give the reds nearly enough love. Red is probably the one shade I have trouble pulling off. But Kristi was extremely flattering on, and is a true classic, pretty red. I ended up wearing this for three days (that’s long for me) because I loved it so much.

Julieanne, oh sweet purple Julieanne! All you purple lovers out there need to get this one. You won’t be let down! It’s dark and shimmery, and doesn’t look black in low light.

This entire Wicked and Wonderful collections are truly amazing colors, great job Zoya!:-)

July 4th mani

Posted in Blue, Essie, Glitter, Red, Sinful with tags , , , on July 4, 2010 by Amanda Frankenpolish

Happy 4th of July!!!

I just wanted to do a quick post to wish everyone a happy and safe holiday, and to show you what I chose to wear polish-wise today!

I used Essie Red Nouveau as the base (2 coats), and added one coat of Sinful Colors Spakie on top. Now, I’m pretty sure what Sinful was going for was “Sparkie”…but somehow the R didn’t quite make it on the label. Unless there is indeed something called a “spakie” out there that I’m not aware of, haha! But anyyyyyways….Spakie is a clear base with blue star shaped glitter and smaller regular blue glitter. Like most large glitters shaped like things, it was a PITA to use. I did one coat, then just picked out the star pieces with the brush and added them on my nails carefully where I wanted them.

Now, hopefully I can make it through the day without picking these all off. I did a pretty heavy coat of SV on top, but they still feel “pointy”!

Thanks for stopping by! Have a great day, all! 😛

Red Light District

Good morning, all!
This cold or whatever it is, is reluctant to go away…so I am still feeling yucky. I have a quick & easy franken for you today, and some U.K pretties lined up for Friday!

For this franken, I used A Perfect 10 After Party, NYC Times Square Tangerine Creme, and an old red L’Oreal creme.

I filled an empty bottle with 1/2 of After Party, slightly less than 1/2 of Times Square Tangerine, and added 20 drops of red.

I love how juicy this one is!

Up close to show the shimmer!

Pretty, and fairly easy to make. Thanks for stopping by! 🙂

Franken-free Friday: BB Coutures!

Posted in BB Couture, Green, Grey, jelly, Orange, Red with tags , , , , , , , on May 21, 2010 by Amanda Frankenpolish

Happy Friday!

Today I have a few polishes to show you from one of my absolute favorite brands, BB Couture. BB Couture may not be as well known as OPI or Essie, but their polishes are AMAZING. The have some of the coolest and unique colors, and their formula is one of the best I have ever used, hands down.

First, is a color that is near and dear to me. Frosty Meadow was the first BB Couture polish I bought a few years back, and not only is it GREEN…but it’s a green jelly with glitter! Of course I didn’t notice until later on my pictures of this all came out slightly blurry, but you get the idea. This is 2 coats, as are the rest:

Napa Valley Red is another one of my BBC favorites. This has the same jelly-like base with glitter, but with a vampy twist! Very fitting, since this is one of the colors created by Kelly from Vampy Varnish.

Painted Lady is one of the newer BBC summer colors from the Ladybug Collection. It’s a gorgeous orange jelly with glitter, and so perfect for summer.

Finally, I have one of my other new favorites that I got with my last order, Intake Valve. This is one of the BB Couture “polish for men” colors, but of course it looks just as good on ladies! Intake Valve is a pale grey creme with a touch of purple and slight shimmer to it. Really cool looking! I love these grey/purple colors, and was pleased that I couldn’t find a dupe for this in my stash.

I buy all my BB Couture polishes from Overall Beauty, and have had nothing but outstanding experiences with them. Kim, the owner, is such a sweetheart, and always sends me personal emails with updates on my order, or answers to my questions.

Thanks for stopping by! I have some more fun frankens coming up, as well as goodies to giveaway, so check back!

Franken-free Friday: Color change polish

Posted in Blue, Claire's, Del Sol, Pink, Purple, Red, Silver with tags , , on May 7, 2010 by Amanda Frankenpolish

Happy Friday!

Color change polishes have been around for quite a while now, and I can’t tell you how many different brands I have tried… only to be disappointed that they didn’t actually change color. Del Sol is one brand I have always been pleased with, and the first I came across that worked as promised (more on those in a minute). Claire’s also came out with a line of “Mood” polishes that change color based on your body temperature, and I have one to show you.

This is Peaceful/Confident, a teal/blue creme. It applied very nicely, and I thought the color was pretty.

It changed color when I ran my hands under cold water, but it morphed back quickly and I couldn’t take the picture fast enough. I figured I would try again later, but sadly…I didn’t have a chance to. A few hours later, the polish began chipping and peeling. BAD. I’m talking giant pieces peeling off in sheets. I figured maybe it was just a fluke, or my basecoat/topcoat wasn’t playing nice (Nailtek Foundation II & SV). So I tried again a few days later…this time using Barielle Camo and Manicure Extender. Same thing. So, brace yourselves…here is my Peaceful/Confident mani after a few hours of wear (warning…nakey, yellow stained nails ahead):

So…yeah. These polishes don’t like me. On the plus side, you can see it is indeed a different shade in the latter photo!

Ok, now if you aren’t too traumatized…I have some Del Sols to show you. No nakey, yellow nails, I promise! I bought my first Del Sol polish on vacation in South Carolina a few years ago, and have acquired many more since. I planned on swatching more of these, but unfortunately the sun was playing peek-a-boo with me, so I only managed to get two of them.

This is one of my favorites…Ruby Slipper. Indoors and in shade, it is a pretty silver glitter…very subtle.

Outdoors, in the sun…HELLO! This baby comes to life! It turns into a vibrant red that is screaming for attention. Love this one! I wear it as a pedi quite frequently, and never tire of watching it change colors.

Foxy is one I just got recently, and to be totally honest…I wasn’t crazy about it at first. It looks very bland in the bottle, but once I had it on, I decided I liked it a lot. Indoors, it is a bright pink with slight purple flash.

Again, this one really came to life outdoors in the sun. It changed to a gorgeous shimmery purple. So glad I gave this a chance…I plan on wearing it again soon.

The Del Sols wear really well on me, and I usually wear Seche Vite or Barielle Manicure Extender over them. I’ve also used Sally’s Oh So Wet (my HG pedi topcoat) as well..and they still change color. Make sure whichever top coat you use does not have a UV-blocker in it, because it will prevent the polish from changing color!

I have a Del Sol giveaway coming up tomorrow, so be sure to check back! 🙂

Death To Cupid

Ok, all you anti-Valentiners (anti-Valentinees?) out there…today I have a special color for you! So if you aren’t in the loving spirit, or are just feeling in a vampy color sort of mood…look no further!

I used NYC Clear, Sally Hansen Red Awakening (any red creme will be fine) and Wet ‘N Wild Black Creme.

I filled an empty bottle with 1/3 of each of the three colors, added in a few ballz, and shook well.

Nothing says ‘I love you’ (or ‘I hate your guts’) like a dark blood red polish! I know I haven’t always been a big fan of red polishes, but lately I find myself buying and making a lot of them. This has been my favorite so far. It is so shiny, and I love the jelly finish! I used 2 coats, and it covered flawlessly.

Happy Valentines Day! Thanks for stopping by ❤
