Holiday In May

I some really cool polishes coming up, but first…the last of the glitters!

Today’s franken was made with New York Summer Alpha Jewel glitter, New York Summer Emerald glitter, and Claire’s Go Green glitter.

I filled an empty bottle up with 1/3 third of each glitter, added ballz, and shook well. Easy!

Green? Glitter? Holo glitter? Right up my alley! Although this is a bit more sheer than I usually like, it’s something different so I decided to leave it as is.

Close up/blurred to show the glitter:

Coming up next, I have some special requests! Check back soon! 🙂

Lost Treasure of Atlantis

Happy Memorial weekend! On this lovely Saturday, I have a pretty blue glitter for you.

For this one, I used Color Club Sultry Diva gold glitter, Jade Twilight Blue, and Maybelline Bolt of Blue.

I mixed 1/3 of each glitter into and empty bottle, added ballz and shook well.

I will admit, I was kind of on the fence about this color. I wasn’t sure I liked it, but I gave it a try anyway.

It definitely looks better on than in the bottle! I wasn’t sure how the blue and gold glitters would look together, but it’s definitely unique and pretty. I had to settle on indoor pictures, since it decided to rain! Here it is close up…

I have one more super glitter for you, then we will move on to some more reader requests!

Bad Medicine

As promised…I have another mega glitter for you today!

For this one, I used Color Club Sex Symbol silver glitter, Jade Asteroid Caress, and Martha Stewart fine glitter in Garnet.

I filled an empty bottle half full with Sex Symbol, then added 1/3 of Asteroid Caress. I then added in 2 tablespoons of Garnet glitter, and mixed it well.

I was a tad let down because this one doesn’t look very impressive in the bottle. On my nails, however, it really dazzles!

There wasn’t much sun today, but here is a close up in overcast natural light…

Now, I had a lot of trouble thinking of a name for this one. After staring at the picture for days, the song “Bad Medicine” by Bon Jovi (yes…go ahead and laugh…I was totally born in the 80’s!) popped into my head. I have no idea why, but it seemed like a fitting name.
I have more glitter coming up, so check back!

Love Me More

Posted in Glitter with tags , , , , , on May 17, 2009 by Amanda Frankenpolish

As promised, today I have some glitter for you!

I enjoy making my own unique creations, but once in a while I get requests to make dupes of other popular polishes. I’m always happy to oblige, and it adds a little extra challenge to frankening. I had a few recent requests for a franken of Rescue Beauty Lounge’s new glitter polish, Locavore. After a bit of experimenting and tweaking, I finally am satisfied with my creation.

I used Color Club Sultry Diva gold glitter, Jade Asteroid Caress, Jade Blue Twilight, and Martha Stewart micro glitter in Peridot.

I mixed 1/3 each of the glitters into an empty bottle, and added 1 tablespoon of Peridot glitter. Glitter mixes fairly quickly, so in a few shakes I had my sparklie pretty!

This polish is mega-glittery, and I needed to take several pics to really capture its beauty!

Indoors/no flash:

Outdoors/partial sun:

I don’t own Locavore, but I sent a spare bottle of my “Love Me More” franken to my friend Jackie, and she compared it to Locavore. Here is the side by side bottle pic she took (LMM franken on the left, RBL Locavore on the right):

Pretty close, right?

I’ll have more super glitter for you soon, so check back!

Plum Preserves

Posted in jelly, Purple with tags , , , , on May 14, 2009 by Amanda Frankenpolish

I have some really awesome super glitters coming up, but today I have the last of my recent jellies! Reader Mimi asked if there was anything else she could use Sinful Dream On for (what I used for Grapesicle), and I also had a few requests for a purple jelly polish. Todays franken takes care of both!

I used Sinful Dream On, Wet ‘N Wild clear, and Wet ‘N Wild Black Creme.

I filled an empty bottle half full with clear, then added in just less than 1/2 of Dream On. This leaves room to add in the black, which I used about 20 drops of. You can use more of less, depending on how dark or light you want the purple.

Like other jellies, this has super shine to it! I used three coats, and it covered well. My application is slightly messier than normal…drinking a whole pot of coffee before swatching isn’t really a good idea!

Thanks for looking! 🙂

20,000 Leagues Under the Sea

Posted in Blue, jelly with tags , , , , , on May 11, 2009 by Amanda Frankenpolish

I have received a lot of compliments on my “Jackie Green Jelly” polish, so I decided to make a navy version!

I used New York Summer Hot Sky Blue, Wet ‘N Wild clear, and Wet ‘N Wild Black Creme.

I poured 1/2 Hot Sky Blue into and empty bottle, then added almost 1/2 of clear into it. I used 10 drops of the black creme to darken the mix into a deep navy.

As with most jelly polishes, this took 4 coats to be opaque, but it was well worth it! It is a true navy, and even it low light it still looks dark blue and not black. This is without a top coat on it, and look how shiny it is!

More to come, so check back!
