Red Supernova

Hello franken-friends!
Today’s franken is a color I made for my friend Hanna. I wanted to make a jazzy purple for her, and after some experimenting, I came up with a concoction that is really cool. I asked Hanna if she would do my the honor of naming it, and she gladly accepted. 🙂

I used Color Club Electronica (please excuse the broken bottle top!), LA Colors Art Deco in Red Glitter, and Pure Ice Heartbreaker.

I filled an empty bottle half full of Electronica, and added half each of Red Glitter and Heartbreaker.

The shimmer in this one is super pretty!

I’m so glad this turned out so nice! Of course I made sure to make myself a bottle of this as well!

Thanks for stopping by, and be sure to check back soon for new frankens! 😉

Night Angel

I must forewarn you, I am a bit biased on today’s franken. It is definitely in the running for favorite franken, and hopefully you love it as much as I do!

I used Wet ‘N Wild black creme, Revlon Glimmer Gloss in Cherry Fizz, and Pure Ice Heartbreaker.

I filled an empty bottle with just less than half each of Cherry Fizz and Heartbreaker. I then added in a tiny bit (approx. 20 drops) of black, and shook well.

I love the green glow in this! It really shows up nicely on the nails, too. I think perhaps this could be a distant cousin to Versace 2077!

Thanks for stopping by…as promised, I have holiday frankens coming up next!

Little Monster

What better way to start out the day than with a little green? 😉
We all know that I love my green polishes, but today’s franken is a bit more on the tame side. And the bonus is, that it’s pretty darn easy to make!

I used New York Summer Amaranth (please ignore the sad state of the bottle…it had a bit of an accident when I was moving) and OPI Dazzle Me.

I added 1/2 each into an empty bottle, added a few ballz, and shook.

I used 3 very thin coats, and it still had a bit of sheerness to it. Usually VNL’s (visible nail lines) bother the hell outta me, but I didn’t mind it so much with this one.

The perky green is a lovely eye-catching color, while the shimmer really softens it up!
I’ve been working on some really cool new polishes, as well as some holiday ones. They will be up very soon, and as always, feel free to email me any requests. Thanks for stopping by! 😀

Ah, winter is upon us! I though I’d warm things up a bit with a cheery, lively color. As much as I love wearing vampy darks for fall/winter, I need a little pick me up now and then. And today’s polish may give you some creative ideas for using those no-so-desirable Dollar Store polishes.

For Sandpiper, I used NYC Pink Promenade Creme, Revlon Sheer Camisole, and Sally Hansen Spark (the latter two both Dollar Tree finds).

I filled an empty bottle with just slightly less than 1/2 each of Sheer Camisole and Spark, then added about 20 drops of Pink Promenade. I shook my mixture up, and voila…instant summer!

I love the subtle orange glow in this…it warms me right up looking at it!

Thanks for stopping by…I’ll have more coming up soon! 😉

Galaxy Dust

Today’s franken is one that definitely took a surprising turn while making it. As you have witnessed from some of my other polishes, frankens can take on a life of their own and end up looking quite different than anticipated. Now, that can either be good or bad…but in this case, it was a positive outcome!

I used Hard Candy’s Show Girl makeup glitter in Black Jack, Maybelline Colorama in #21 Rock Me, and Wet ‘N Wild clear. You can substitute any shimmery white for the Colorama….in fact, I’ve found many good ones at dollar stores!

I poured the entire contents of the Colorama into an empty bottle (0.5 oz size), then added in 1 tablespoon of Black Jack glitter. I added in a bit of clear (approx. 1/4), some ballz, and shook. To my dismay, the rainbow glitter seemed to fade. I wasn’t disappointed long, though.

What a gorgeous color! It reminds me of Essie’s Starry Starry Night.

Although the rainbow glitter didn’t hold up in polish, it transformed into something even better! I was pleasantly surprised with this franken, and plan to wear it again soon.
Thanks for stopping by…I’ll be back soon with more goodies for you! 😉

Happy Halloween!

As promised, I have a ghoulish delight for you all today! I actually made this franken last Halloween, before I got into blogging. It was always a favorite of mine, so I decided to recreate it for you. I must warn you that my nails are in very bad shape right now. Between moving, house renovations and experimenting with a different brand of top coat…well, you’ll see soon enough.

For our Halloween franken, I used Wet ‘N Wild black creme, and Maybelline Express Finish in Sunsparkle.

I added 3/4 Sunsparkle into an empty bottle, then added in 1/3 of the black. A couple ballz, and some shaking produces a gorgeous glowy shade.

The beautiful orange glow doesn’t show up very well in the bottle picture, but once on the nail it really sparks to life!

I’m glad to be back blogging and frankening! I have much more coming up, and as always, feel free to email me with suggestions! 😉

Love Me More

Posted in Glitter with tags , , , , , on May 17, 2009 by Amanda Frankenpolish

As promised, today I have some glitter for you!

I enjoy making my own unique creations, but once in a while I get requests to make dupes of other popular polishes. I’m always happy to oblige, and it adds a little extra challenge to frankening. I had a few recent requests for a franken of Rescue Beauty Lounge’s new glitter polish, Locavore. After a bit of experimenting and tweaking, I finally am satisfied with my creation.

I used Color Club Sultry Diva gold glitter, Jade Asteroid Caress, Jade Blue Twilight, and Martha Stewart micro glitter in Peridot.

I mixed 1/3 each of the glitters into an empty bottle, and added 1 tablespoon of Peridot glitter. Glitter mixes fairly quickly, so in a few shakes I had my sparklie pretty!

This polish is mega-glittery, and I needed to take several pics to really capture its beauty!

Indoors/no flash:

Outdoors/partial sun:

I don’t own Locavore, but I sent a spare bottle of my “Love Me More” franken to my friend Jackie, and she compared it to Locavore. Here is the side by side bottle pic she took (LMM franken on the left, RBL Locavore on the right):

Pretty close, right?

I’ll have more super glitter for you soon, so check back!
