Electric Cinder

Hello, everyone!

I’m back with yet another Overall Beauty Minerals franken! This one definitely came out REALLY great…and is cool looking. I also added a little something to the name to properly describe it.

I choose Orly Rock Candy to pair with OM’s “Cinder” pigment. Cinder is a dark smoky black with teeny tiny purple glitter flecks. This was actually the second franken I made with Cinder…the first being a FAIL. Not a huge fail, but still not what I wanted, and these pigments are so darn pretty they deserve nothing less than a 100% effort on my part! Rock Candy was a wise choice, and I only needed about a
teaspoon of Cinder pigment.

I’m actually glad the first attempt didn’t work…otherwise I might not have discovered this duochrome beauty!

It flashes between a vivid teal, deep shimmery purple, and an array of blue hues in between. Reminds me a lot of one of the old and long-gone Sally Hansen Prism colors, Turquoise Opal. The fine purple glitter in the Cinder pigment really pops out when the sun hits this. Of course the weather here has been madness (Tornado warnings in NY, really?!) so sun has been scarce.

Thanks for stopping by! I have the last (and my favorite) of these coming up tomorrow, so check back!

Winter Night

Posted in Blue, Purple with tags , , , , , on June 29, 2010 by Amanda Frankenpolish

Hi again!

I have another pretty today made with Overall Beauty Minerals Pigment!

I paired the “Winter Night” pigment, which is a dark shimmery blue/purple, with China Glaze Tinsel, a silver sparkle. I used about 2 teaspoons of WN pigment.

The silver sparkles really give this the illusion of a true winter night!

This applied nice and smooth, good coverage in two coats…and well, just look at that color! I couldn’t be happier with how this one turned out.

Thanks for stopping by…I have a couple more of these coming up, so check back!

Elf Toes

Posted in Pink with tags , , , , , , on June 28, 2010 by Amanda Frankenpolish

Good morning!

I have the first of my week-long frankens made with my cool new pigments from Overall Beauty Minerals! The names were so cute on the pigments, that I decided to leave them, rather than come up with new ones.

For “Elf Toes”, I mixed the pigment with two different pink Revlon Colorstay colors- Endless Pink and Extremely Pink. I used approx. one teaspoon of pigment.

This looked incredible in the bottle, but I wasn’t sure the color would suit my skin tone…

…I was proven wrong! I really love the golden sheen in this. And who doesn’t feel pretty in pink? You all know I’m not a huge pink lover, but the girlie-girl inside me was jumping for joy when I wore this. Plus, it’s named “Elf Toes”. That will make just about anyone crack a smile!

Thanks for stopping by! I will have more for you tomorrow, so please check back!

Franken-free Friday: white, grey and sparkley all over!

Posted in BB Couture, Grey, Holographic, White, Zoya with tags , , , , , , , , , , on June 25, 2010 by Amanda Frankenpolish

Happy Friday, everyone!

Today’s post is a mixed bag of some random NOTD’s I have done recently. Grey is a very close second to green as my favorite polish color, and what I mostly wore this past week.

Up first…one of my favorite whites, Zoya Ginessa. This color reminds me of freshly fallen snow. Crisp, clean and shimmery. It was opaque in two coats, but I did three for a little extra sparkle.

Another beloved holo of mine is China Glaze Let’s Do It In 3-D, a charcoal grey holo. The entire Kaleidoscope collection is incredible (and sadly discontinued), but this one really stands out because it is so unique. It’s not black, it’s not silver…but somewhere in between. This is two thin coats, and it applied quite nicely.

Color Club’s Who Are You Wearing is a pale greyish/lavender color quite similar to my beloved BB Couture Intake Valve, but a bit lighter and the formula wasn’t as good. The first and second coats went on a bit streaky, but it was good to go in three. I’m digging these weird grey-ish colors lately.

Oh, and speaking of BB Couture…I wore one of their awesome greys, Opposites Attract this week. OA is a medium grey cream with tiny flecks of silver glitter in it. It reminds me of a sidewalk! I know I’ve raved about BBC before (and probably will again!) but it is only because it is well-deserved praise. Their formula is outstanding…one of the best I have ever used. This is two thin coats, and of course it covered beautifully.

I buy all my BB Coutures from Overallbeauty.com, and they also carry a variety of other cosmetics as well. In fact, Kim (the owner) recently sent me some pigment samples of their colors to use in frankening. I am excited about these…so excited, in fact, that I will be showing them off all next week. That’s right, a franken every day! Thanks for stopping by and have a great weekend, all!

Lazy Daze

Hi, all!

I’ve got a nice summery orange for you today! I used Pure Luxe Pigment in Mai Tai and Maybelline Sunsplash polish. The Mai Tai pigment is a pretty orange with glitter sparkles in it…another one I love to wear as an eyeshadow, so I figured it would make a cool polish color.

I actually added in about 10 drops of plain orange creme to darken this a touch.

This isn’t an over the top, neon orange…in fact, it leans more towards peach. It was a little on the sheer side, so I did three coats.

Thanks for stopping by! 🙂

Review: Hand Perfection by Ellen Sirot

Posted in Hand Perfection, Reviews on June 19, 2010 by Amanda Frankenpolish

Good morning!

I was given the opportunity recently to review a few products from “Hand Perfection”, a line from former hand model Ellen Sirot. Here is a bit of background info on Ellen and Hand Perfection from their press release:

Ellen has been a top hand model, working on countless advertising campaigns and serving as a hand in for A-list celebrities for almost 20 years. In 2009, she launched HAND PERFECTION, the first clinically proven, advanced beauty treatment dedicated to the anti-aging needs hands.

Specially formulated to combat the signs of aging on the delicate skin of the hands, HAND PERFECTION combines skin-friendly omega-3 fatty acids, with protective anti-oxidants and exceptional technologies – in ultra-hydrating formulas. HAND PERFECTION deeply nourishes, tones and tightens skin, diminishes the appearance of wrinkles, and reduces age spots – helping to turn back the hands of time in no time. HAND PERFECTION is a perfect addition to any manicure.

HAND PERFECTION has received amazing reviews among the media in its first year – garnering extensive magazine, blog and celebrity attention, including:

We won the prestigious 2009 REDBOOK MVP Award

· We won a 2010 Star Magazine Beauty Award

· We have sold out on HSN

· We were featured in the May 2010 edition of More Magazine and More.com

· Tyra Banks gave HAND PERFECTION away as part of her holiday extravaganza!

I don’t usually buy into hype, but I was genuinely curious about these products after they contacted me. I agreed to try them out, and received the Hand Perfection lotion and Nail & Cuticle Treatment. I used both exclusively for one week, twice a day.

I love the packaging for the Nail & Cuticle Treatment! What an innovative idea! The oil is dispensed through a thin, twist up container with an sponge applicator end. MUCH neater than the regular bottle/brush oil combo you usually see. It is small and portable, perfect size for your purse. The oil itself was nice…I’d say it was on par with other cuticle oil brands I have used. The packaging is what really sells this, though.

The lotion, however, could come in a plastic ziplock bag and I would still be raving about it. This stuff is INCREDIBLE. Part of me was secretly hoping that it would be mediocre so I wouldn’t want more of it…but that just isn’t the case. The texture is very light and silky, and to my surprise, non-greasy. It also is fragrance-free, so there is no smell to it at all. It absorbed quickly into my skin, leaving it feeling hydrated and smooth. I even tested this on my feet a couple times with the same positive results. After one week, I can honestly say my hands look better. They have a healthy glow to them, feel smoother, and overall just look nicer. Nothing dramatic, but a definite marked improvement.

So, to wrap things up…my favorite here was obviously the lotion. It is really good stuff and actually does make your hands look nicer and healthier. The Nail & Cuticle Treatment was ok, but I really liked the packaging. If I were to purchase this, it would be because of the convenience and ease of application that the packaging offers.

You can purchase the kit from HSN.com for $29.

I always love trying out new things, so this was really fun for me! 🙂

Franken-free Friday: Overseas Beauties

Posted in Black, Blue, BYS, Glitter, GOSH, Green, Holographic, Mavala, Silver, Stargazer with tags , , , , , , , , , , on June 18, 2010 by Amanda Frankenpolish

Happy Friday!
I have some more overseas colors to show you today. Most of these aren’t terribly hard to find, and I’ve even seen a few pop up on ebay from time to time.

First up, a long time lemmings satisfied (once again by my good friend Vikki in the U.K. <3), Stargazer #232. I have a couple other Stargazer colors, and while I am not crazy about the round, bubble-like bottle shape…the colors are very pretty and apply nicely. #232 is a silver chrome with a mirror-like finish to it. Despite being a metallic, it really wasn’t hard to work with. I had very minimal visible brush strokes, and it covered in 2 thin coats.

Next, another U.K. silver…but this one is a holographic! And not just any old holo. GOSH Holographic is THE best silver holo I own. I’ve actually had this one a while and have worn it several times. It never fails to amaze me. 2 coats over Nailtek Foundation II…liquid awesome!

I recently received my very first BYS polishes from Aussie blogger and friend Kaz (check her out at Pretty-Random). The first one I tried out, I fell head over heels in love with. Thunderstorm, which I admit I only wanted because of the name, is a very dark blue-almost-black with fine silver glitter and larger holo glitter pieces. It’s gorgeous. I wore it for 3 days and keep staring at my nails constantly. I applied 2 coats, and it was slightly lumpy on…but evened out with 1 thin coat of TC. The BYS polishes smell AWFUL, just to warn you. I think the waterproofing paint we used on our basement smelled better than these. But the color makes it totally worth it…this one is really unique.

And last up, Mavala Pygmee. Mavala is a Swiss brand, and has a lot of really neat colors. The bottles are teeny, but I have yet to be disappointed by what’s inside! Pygmee is a weird, swampy green shimmer that looks like the love child of RBL No More War and China Glaze Moonpool. The first coat went on a bit sheer, but it covered nicely with the second coat.

Thanks for stopping by! Check in tomorrow…I will have a review up of a couple “Hand Perfection” products I got to try out! 🙂
Have a great weekend, all!
