Nudist Colony

Posted in nude with tags , , , , , on June 15, 2010 by Amanda Frankenpolish

Good morning!
I bet I raised a few eyebrows with the title of this post. My franken today strays from my normal color palette, and as you can probably guess…is a nude!

I used Revlon Colorstay in Endless Pink, and MAC pigment in Cocoa Motion.

I filled an empty bottle with 3/4 Endless Pink, and 1 teaspoon of Cocoa Motion. The 10-year-old in me always wants to giggle at the word “nude”, so I definitely needed to give this one a cheeky name.
:-P

I’m not going to lie…this really isn’t a “me” color, but not quite as mannequin-hands as I was expecting. It has a very slight shimmer to it, and it actually quite pretty.

Thanks for stopping by! I have something a bit more colorful coming up, as well as another giveaway, so check back! :-D

Franken-free Friday: BB Coutures!

Posted in BB Couture, Green, Grey, jelly, Orange, Red with tags , , , , , , , on May 21, 2010 by Amanda Frankenpolish

Happy Friday!

Today I have a few polishes to show you from one of my absolute favorite brands, BB Couture. BB Couture may not be as well known as OPI or Essie, but their polishes are AMAZING. The have some of the coolest and unique colors, and their formula is one of the best I have ever used, hands down.

First, is a color that is near and dear to me. Frosty Meadow was the first BB Couture polish I bought a few years back, and not only is it GREEN…but it’s a green jelly with glitter! Of course I didn’t notice until later on my pictures of this all came out slightly blurry, but you get the idea. This is 2 coats, as are the rest:

Napa Valley Red is another one of my BBC favorites. This has the same jelly-like base with glitter, but with a vampy twist! Very fitting, since this is one of the colors created by Kelly from Vampy Varnish.

Painted Lady is one of the newer BBC summer colors from the Ladybug Collection. It’s a gorgeous orange jelly with glitter, and so perfect for summer.

Finally, I have one of my other new favorites that I got with my last order, Intake Valve. This is one of the BB Couture “polish for men” colors, but of course it looks just as good on ladies! Intake Valve is a pale grey creme with a touch of purple and slight shimmer to it. Really cool looking! I love these grey/purple colors, and was pleased that I couldn’t find a dupe for this in my stash.

I buy all my BB Couture polishes from Overall Beauty, and have had nothing but outstanding experiences with them. Kim, the owner, is such a sweetheart, and always sends me personal emails with updates on my order, or answers to my questions.

Thanks for stopping by! I have some more fun frankens coming up, as well as goodies to giveaway, so check back!
:-P

Moonage Daydream

Posted in Blue, Glitter, Green with tags , , , , , , on May 10, 2010 by Amanda Frankenpolish

Hello everyone!
Yes, the name of today’s franken was borrowed from a David Bowie song. :-P I love Bowie, and for some reason the colors in this polish made me think of this song!

I used Sinful Daddy’s Girl, Zoya Kotori, and Jade Sparkle Emerald.

I filled an empty bottle with 1/3 of each color, and shook the mix well.

This one took 3 coats to be opaque, but I didn’t mind because it was so pretty!

*sings*Press your space face close to mine…
Ahem, yes here it is outdoors in partial sun…

Thanks for stopping by! Don’t forget to enter my Del Sol giveaway! ;-)

Sparkles & Fangs

Posted in Glitter, Purple with tags , , , , , , , , , on April 19, 2010 by Amanda Frankenpolish

Hello franken-friends…I’m back!

I’ve had quite a few requests for “vampire themed/Twilight themed” frankens, so I went ahead and used one of my awesome new Franken Juggs from Manglaze to make one.

I used Jade Twinkling Purple, Sally Hansen Red Awakening, Orly Love Each Other, and Sally Hansen Glossy.

I filled the bottle with 1/3 each of Love Each Other and Twinkling Purple, then added 1/4 of Glossy, followed by about 20 drops of Red Awakening.

‘Tis sparkley! Just like vampires! Errr, well, certain vampires at least. LOL.

I admit I was a bit intimidated by the Franken Jugg. It’s quite different looking than a typical polish bottle, but I found the cap design didn’t hinder my application of the polish at all. In fact, my mani actually came out GREAT and required zero cleanup. I was quite pleased with the brush as well, so ManGlaze really has a winner with these! And my favorite part?

Look at the mouth on that baby! So much easier for adding polish/pigments/glitter into the jugg. Even when I use my little paper funnels with normal polish bottles, I still make a huge mess…this really will be beneficial! Just be careful not to knock it over ;-)

Thanks for stopping by…be sure to come back Friday. I have something a little bit different for you coming up! :-D

Oregon Green Matte

Posted in Green, matte with tags , , , , , , , on August 5, 2009 by Amanda Frankenpolish

I am very excited for today’s matte franken! I have been loving the matte look lately, and what is better than an awesome green matte?

I used Chromium Oxide Green pigment from TKB Trading, and Nailtek Foundation II.

I filled an empty bottle 3/4 full of Nailtek, then mixed in 1 tablespoon of Oxide Green pigment.

Be still, my heart! I think I actually shrieked out loud when I saw this one in the bottle!

And wow, once on my nails, I knew this one was an instant win. I’ve noticed a lot of mattes tend to look slightly lumpy in up close pictures, but honestly they look smooth on my nails! Thank you to my friend, Elma (an Oregon native) for helping me name this.
I have a few more mattes coming up, including another green that is EVEN BETTER, so check back! :-D

On The Horizon

As you’ve probably noticed with several of my creations, sometime mixing various colors together results in something totally different than expected! My franken today is a prime example of just that. I originally set out to make a light mocha creme, but as you can guess…I ended up with something else. :-P

I used Wet ‘N Wild French White creme, and Naturistics Java Creme, which is a deep brown creme.

I mixed together 2/3 of the French White and 1/3 of Java Creme into an empty bottle. Instead of a light mocha brown, I was surprised to see it was more of a dusty purple reminiscent of Sephora by OPI’s Metro Chic.

While it wasn’t what I set out to make, it certainly is a neat looking color!

Thanks for stopping by! I’ll have some other fun stuff shorty!

Girly Overload

Posted in Glitter, jelly, Pink with tags , , , , on July 7, 2009 by Amanda Frankenpolish

I’d like to thank everyone that voted on my poll! I always love input from readers, and like to know what kind of polishes you all like to see! :-)

I’ve been catching up on reader requests, inventing some cool new frankens, and I will be having my first ever giveaway *very* soon!

Today’s franken is a sweet combination of our top two contenders for what you wanted more of…jelly and glitter. It is also a super duper girly color! I used an ancient Parfait brand pink creme (of course if you don’t have an antique pink laying around, feel free to substitute), New York Summer Alpha Jewel glitter, and Maybelline clear topcoat.

I poured 1/3 each of the pink and clear into an empty bottle, then mixed in 2/3 of Alpha Jewel glitter.

Bubble gum pink with a twist! Shiny and glittery! My nails haven’t been behaving lately, so I have been forced to keep them shorter than I prefer.

Thanks for looking, franken-friends! I shall return with more goodies for you soon.

Swimming on Neptune

Posted in Blue, Duochromes, Pink with tags , , , , , , , , on June 25, 2009 by Amanda Frankenpolish

All aboard…next stop…Neptune! Here’s a fun fact…did you know that the planet Neptune was named after the Roman god of the sea? When I think of the sea, I think of swimming…so that’s where the name for my franken came from.

I’ve experimented with different colors for each of my duochromes, and the possibilities are endless. The neat thing about these Planetary pigments are that they look different when mixed with alternate colors.

For today’s franken, I used Revlon Color in True Camisole, which is a sheer pink, and Travel to Neptune pigment from TKB Trading. Travel to Neptune is a shimmery pink with a strong blue flash. I filled a 0.25 oz bottle 3/4 full with True Camisole, then added in 1 teaspoon of Neptune pigment.

I love how this one turned out! It’s like OPI Rosey Future on steroids!

The great thing about these pigments is that even when mixed with a sheer or clear polish, they are completely opaque in 2 thin coats!

Of course it has been raining here for a week straight, so sadly, I had no sun to work with. The blue flash in this is really more vibrant in real life.
Thanks for looking, and hopefully you aren’t tired of duochromes yet because I still have a few more for you!

Mercury Rising

Posted in Bronze/Brown, Duochromes, Green, Orange with tags , , , , , , , on June 22, 2009 by Amanda Frankenpolish

Today our visit into franken-land will be taking us to Mercury!

I used Maybelline clear, and Travel to Mercury pigment from TKB Trading. Mercury is a deep bronzy/orange with flashes of green and gold.

I filled a 0.25 oz empty bottle with 3/4 clear, and then added in 1 teaspoon of Mercury pigment.

The color shift in this one was definitely more noticeable in the bottle than on the nail, but it’s still cool looking.
