A very special franken…”Oceanmist”

Posted in Blue, Green, Guest Frankeners with tags , , , , on January 4, 2010 by Amanda Frankenpolish

Today I have a very special treat for you! I received a beautiful franken from my pal Amy (shopping_sushi_style over at MUA). She named it “Oceanmist” after my Makeupalley user name, OceanMist27, and it couldn’t be more properly named.

It is a gorgeous teal/green shimmer…the color of cool Caribbean waters! Amy said she used SH Lacquer Shine in Flash (approx.70%) and the yellow jelly from Hot Topic (the one that looks like egg yolk) to make this.

What a wonderful surprise this was! It was incredibly sweet of Amy to make this for me. I’m proudly wearing her creation today, and can’t stop staring at my nails. <3 Thank you, Amy!

Christmas Tree

Posted in Green, Holographic with tags , , , , , , on December 23, 2009 by Amanda Frankenpolish

We are down to the wire now! Christmas is only two days away, and I just happen to have two more holiday frankens to show you!

Now, I’m sure there is a polish somewhere already named “Christmas Tree”, but I couldn’t name my franken anything else. I even tried to think up alternate names, but “Christmas Tree” really seemed to fit!

For my “Christmas Tree”, I used Maybelline Emerald Waters, China Glaze L8RG8R, China Glaze Sexagon, and Holographic pigment from Coastal Scents.

I poured just slightly less than 1/3 of each polish into an empty bottle, then added 2 teaspoons of holo pigment.

The holo glitter reminds me so much of tiny, sparkling Christmas lights!

Now, this was actually a franken I made a few years back for Christmas. I loved it so much that I wanted to recreate it on my blog. It’s the perfect Christmas color!

I have one more beautiful holiday franken coming up, so check back tomorrow! :-)

8 Crazy Nights

Posted in Recipes with tags , , , , on December 15, 2009 by Amanda Frankenpolish

Shalom! In honor of Hanukkah, I’ve created a special holiday franken.

I used Wet ‘n Wild clear, Martha Stewart glitter in Blue Topaz, and LA Color Art Deco polish in blue glitter.

I filled an empty bottle with 1/4 of the clear, 1/2 of Art Deco blue glitter, then added in 1 tablespoon of Blue Topaz glitter.

This polish was so glittery, I couldn’t even get my lens to focus properly.

The best part about mega-glittery polishes like this? They wear like iron! So you can enjoy this pretty for all 8 crazy nights!

Thanks for stopping by! More holiday fun to be continued! :-P

Night Angel

I must forewarn you, I am a bit biased on today’s franken. It is definitely in the running for favorite franken, and hopefully you love it as much as I do!

I used Wet ‘N Wild black creme, Revlon Glimmer Gloss in Cherry Fizz, and Pure Ice Heartbreaker.

I filled an empty bottle with just less than half each of Cherry Fizz and Heartbreaker. I then added in a tiny bit (approx. 20 drops) of black, and shook well.

I love the green glow in this! It really shows up nicely on the nails, too. I think perhaps this could be a distant cousin to Versace 2077!

Thanks for stopping by…as promised, I have holiday frankens coming up next!

Ladylike

Posted in Pink with tags , , , , on December 8, 2009 by Amanda Frankenpolish

Good news for all you pink lovers…I’ve got something on the softer side for you today!

For “Ladylike”, I used Sally Hansen Jewel Frost and Revlon Colorstay in Endless Pink (another Dollar Tree find).

I poured half of each into an empty bottle, plus ballz, and shook well.

Now, to be honest…these types of colors aren’t really me. I like loud, colorful and blingy. But this pale shimmery pink is so pretty that even I had to give it a try!

Thanks for stopping in…and be sure to check back soon! :-)

Yule-Mate

Happy December! With the holidays quickly approaching, I thought I would get a start on the seasonal-inspired polishes.

I used Hologram glitter pigment from Coastal Scents, China Glaze St. Tropez (sadly, my brush broke so I resolved to use this for frankening…you can use a similar shade that is easier to find), CM Majestic Blue, and Wet ‘N Wild black creme.

I poured about 1/2 Majestic blue into an empty bottle, then added 1/3 St. Tropez, 10 drops of black, and 1 tbsp. Holographic pigment.

I slowed the camera shutter down a bit to show the gorgeous holo glitter better:

Very festive, indeed! This is truly a shade that just screams, “celebrate!”

I have more holiday fun coming up, so check back soon! :-)

Little Monster

What better way to start out the day than with a little green? ;-)
We all know that I love my green polishes, but today’s franken is a bit more on the tame side. And the bonus is, that it’s pretty darn easy to make!

I used New York Summer Amaranth (please ignore the sad state of the bottle…it had a bit of an accident when I was moving) and OPI Dazzle Me.

I added 1/2 each into an empty bottle, added a few ballz, and shook.

I used 3 very thin coats, and it still had a bit of sheerness to it. Usually VNL’s (visible nail lines) bother the hell outta me, but I didn’t mind it so much with this one.

The perky green is a lovely eye-catching color, while the shimmer really softens it up!
I’ve been working on some really cool new polishes, as well as some holiday ones. They will be up very soon, and as always, feel free to email me any requests. Thanks for stopping by! :-D

Galaxy Dust

Today’s franken is one that definitely took a surprising turn while making it. As you have witnessed from some of my other polishes, frankens can take on a life of their own and end up looking quite different than anticipated. Now, that can either be good or bad…but in this case, it was a positive outcome!

I used Hard Candy’s Show Girl makeup glitter in Black Jack, Maybelline Colorama in #21 Rock Me, and Wet ‘N Wild clear. You can substitute any shimmery white for the Colorama….in fact, I’ve found many good ones at dollar stores!

I poured the entire contents of the Colorama into an empty bottle (0.5 oz size), then added in 1 tablespoon of Black Jack glitter. I added in a bit of clear (approx. 1/4), some ballz, and shook. To my dismay, the rainbow glitter seemed to fade. I wasn’t disappointed long, though.

What a gorgeous color! It reminds me of Essie’s Starry Starry Night.

Although the rainbow glitter didn’t hold up in polish, it transformed into something even better! I was pleasantly surprised with this franken, and plan to wear it again soon.
Thanks for stopping by…I’ll be back soon with more goodies for you! ;-)

Wishful Thinking (also some news!)

Posted in Glitter, Purple with tags , , , on August 31, 2009 by Amanda Frankenpolish

Hello Franken-friends!
I have a really cool glitter polish for you today. I received a ton of compliments on this one when I wore it…glitters tend to have that effect on people. ;-)

For the base, I used LA Colors in Amethyst, which is a pretty color on its’ own…but sadly, after I opened the bottle the cap was all wonky and wouldn’t close again properly, so I decided I may as well franken with it while I was re-bottling it.

After pouring the entire bottle of Amethyst into an empty bottle, I added in 1 tbsp. each of Martha Stewart glitter in Turquoise and Lapis Lazuli. You can use less glitter for a more subtle effect, but I wanted this to really shine!

I can see why this was getting so much attention from people…it’s fabulous! I think this one will be going on my favorite franken list.

Up close of the glittery goodness…

Now, I know a lot of you are curious as to what this “big news” I’ve been hinting at recently. Sadly, it isn’t polish related, but it is huge news for me. My fiance and I have been house hunting for our first house this past year, and after what seemed like forever…we finally found it! People told me house hunting and the home buying process was horrible and stressful, and they were absolutely right! But I made it through this all alive, and will be moving into my new house in a month. I’ll be taking a brief break from frankening, but I promise I will be back soon with some cool stuff for you all! :-) Halloween is coming up, after all!
And as always, thanks to all of you polish lovers that take the time to read my blog and leave me wonderful comments…you guys are awesome! <3

Štěstí Matte

Posted in Blue, Green, matte with tags , , , , , , , , on August 11, 2009 by Amanda Frankenpolish

Out of all the mattes I have made, the one I have to show you today is my absolute favorite!!
I used Hydrated Chromium Oxide Green pigment from TKB Trading, and Nailtek Foundation II for this one.

I filled an empty bottle 3/4 full of Nailtek, then added in 1 tablespoon of Oxide Green pigment. These mixed very easily with the help of a couple ballz and some light shaking.

I must repeat…THIS IS MY FAVORITE MATTE EVER! Very rarely have I worn my frankens (or the rest of my ginormous stash of “regular” polishes) more than once…but I have worn this one THREE times since making it! Can you see why?

I’m sure you are wondering about the name. “Štěstí” is the Czech word for luck. Although I am not normally a superstitious person, I’ve been wearing a lot of green polish lately for luck. Hopefully, it’s been working and I’ll have good news to share soon! :-)
