Eye of the Tiger

Ok, I will apologize in advance for any urges you may have to go watch all the “Rocky” movies now! This franken is quite different than my usual colors, but I’ve been trying to branch out into different things lately.

I used an unnamed bronze Jordana polish (it is quite sheer), Martha Stewart glitter in Sunstone, fine black glitter from TKB Trading, and NYC clear.

It looks like it could be a cousin to Lippmann’s “Superstar”, but the glitter in this is more fine.

I was surprised I actually liked this once I put it on. Bronze colors are hit and miss with me, but this is definitely a keeper!

I took these pictures without a topcoat on, so it is actually much shinier and pretty once I added my SV on.

Death To Cupid

Ok, all you anti-Valentiners (anti-Valentinees?) out there…today I have a special color for you! So if you aren’t in the loving spirit, or are just feeling in a vampy color sort of mood…look no further!

I used NYC Clear, Sally Hansen Red Awakening (any red creme will be fine) and Wet ‘N Wild Black Creme.

I filled an empty bottle with 1/3 of each of the three colors, added in a few ballz, and shook well.

Nothing says ‘I love you’ (or ‘I hate your guts’) like a dark blood red polish! I know I haven’t always been a big fan of red polishes, but lately I find myself buying and making a lot of them. This has been my favorite so far. It is so shiny, and I love the jelly finish! I used 2 coats, and it covered flawlessly.

Love of My Life

I’m really excited to show you today’s franken. Yes, the name is a bit mushy, but hey…this is a romantic and mushy holiday! This is my first attempt at using large shaped glitter, and I’m proud to say it went over quite well.

I used Crystalline Glitter polish from Supply Source, and some light blue and purple holographic loose hearts I had laying around.

I filled an empty bottle half full of Crystalline, then added in the hearts. I wanted to make sure I had enough hearts, that’s why I only used a half bottle of polish. I added in a couple ballz, shook, and let the polish sit until I could swatch it the next day.

Whoa, now! That looks quite pink…how did that happen?! It turns out the holo purple hearts bled into the polish, tinting it pink. I was disappointed at first, but realized the hearts were still intact (although now silver). So I went ahead with my mani, anyway.

I decided this would look best layered over another color. I tried several to give you an idea of how it looks. I used a plain black creme, white creme, red creme, and pink shimmer. My pinky has nothing on it but the franken, so you can see how it looks unlayered. I was amazed how easy this way to use…usually with this type of big glitter, I have to pick out the pieces with an orange stick and arrange them on my nail.

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner, so I have a few themed frankens coming up! Don’t worry…even if you are anti-V-Day, I have something for you, as well!

First up, your typical red and pink classic Valentine’s Day colors! I used Maybelline Wet Shine in Juicy Melon, NYC Clear, and Martha Stewart glitter in Garnet.

I filled an empty bottle with 1/3 clear, 2/3 Juicy Melon, and made sure to leave some space for the glitter. I added in 1 tablespoon of Garnet glitter, and mixed well.

It looks a bit “meh” in the bottle…but much better on. It doesn’t get more lovey-dovery than this!

I had a question on my last polish about the quantity of glitter I use. Most of my frankens, I tend to use a lot of glitter…usually 1 tablespoon. I always make sure to leave room in the bottle for it to fit, and add it in using my funnel method a bit at a time, mixing in between. You can always use less glitter if you’d like a more subtle effect, or even more if you want something that packs a punch.

Valley of the Kings

You know, I used to hate gold polish. It wasn’t until recently that I started buying more gold colors and discovered I really love them! I’ve made a few gold-ish frankens, but I really wanted a true, blinged out gold.

I used Tony and Tina fine silver cosmetic glitter, Sally Hansen Gold Chrome, and Gold Reflects pigment from TKB Trading.

I filled an empty bottle a tad over 3/4 full with Gold Chrome, then added in 1 tablespoon each of the silver and gold glitters.

Oooo, bling-tastic! The glitter adds an extra punch to Gold Chrome, and really makes it sparkle.
